BEST IN POP 2017

16. Halsey – Now Or Never
RELEASEDATE: April 4, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #17 (US Billboard Hot 100)

Clean’s owner decided to make a list consisting of 16 songs. This means Halsey is starting this year’s list leaving Selena Gomez, Jessie Ware, LANY and Paramore right after her. At the very moment Halsey is enjoying her biggest success to date with “Bad At Love” being her first solo top 10 hit. However we enjoyed her “Now Or Never” way more. 2017 has been a big year for the singer. She had a number one album with Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, scored big hits and found love with her boyfriend G-Eazy.

15. Katy Perry ft. Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish
RELEASEDATE: May 19, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #19 (UK Singles Top 75)

Katy Perry’s 2017 era is an absolute mess. We actually never had a problem with the singer. However we have to admit we can’t stand her latest work. She tries waaay to hard. Having said that we can not deny “Swish Swish” is an absolute jam. When this one plays in the club we lose our shit and dance our ass off. ‘Swish swish bitch, another one in the basket!’.

14. Demi Lovato – Tell Me You Love Me
RELEASEDATE: November 14, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #53 (US Billboard Hot 100)

Of course we won’t have a complete list without putting a huge pop ballad in here. Especially since we had one of those taking the number one spot two times before (“Love On The Brain” in 2016 and “Say You Love Me” in 2014). The honor goes to Demi Lovato with her emotional “Tell Me You Love Me”. If the studio version already gives you goose bumps, don’t watch the live version. It will probably make you teary eyed!

13. Calvin Harris ft. Katy Perry, Pharrell & Big Sean – Feels
RELEASEDATE: June 15, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #1 (UK Singles Top 75)

In number 15 we explained how much we disliked Katy Perry this year. Thanks to Calvin Harris she still is the only artist to have two hits in the Best Pop 2017 list. Guess we don’t hate her that much right? The compliments have to go to Calvin and Pharrell though. Together they delivered a huge slice of funky pop music. This makes us happy.

12. Jax Jones ft. RAYE – You Don’t Know Me
RELEASEDATE: December 9, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #3 (UK Singles Top 75)

Even though it has been released in late 2016 we can not imagine a 2017 list without this jam in it. No club was safe for Jax Jones collab with RAYE. This one is so sassy and it cheers you up without a doubt!

11. Portugal. The Man – Feel It Still
RELEASEDATE: March 3, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #4 (US Billboard Hot 100)

It took this band eleven years to score a hit on the charts. To be honest we don’t think Portugal. The Man is here to make big commercial radio hits but we’re pretty sure they are more than happy to be recognized for their talent now. “Feel It Still” is a funky feel good song that will be stuck in your head. All. Day. Long.

10. Will Heard – I Better Love You
RELEASEDATE: February 17, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #X (Didn’t chart anywhere)

Everything Will Heard brings is perfection, because well, his voice is perfect. Each song he releases feels like a present, a gift to our ears. It was the funky “I Better Love You” that stole our heart the most. Shall we dance?

9. Anne-Marie – Ciao Adios
RELEASEDATE: February 10, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #4 (Dutch Top 40)

What a year to be alive! We all witnessed Anne-Marie becoming a force to be reckon with! The pop singer turned into a pop star right in front of our eyes. She finally scored a huge big top 5 solo hit. She managed this with her best song to date. On “Ciao Adios” she get’s her attitude on by deciding to not spend any more time to her lover and wave him goodbye. “Ciao, Adios, I’m done!”. HIT!

8. Zara Larsson – Don’t Let Me Be Yours
RELEASEDATE: May 12, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #X (Didn’t chart anywhere)

Just like the Grammy’s we skipped on Ed Sheeran’s huge hit “Shape Of You” for our end of the year list. He is still very much in here thanks to his song writing. Together with Zara Larsson he wrote the super infectious “Don’t Let Me Be Yours”. The lyrics to this one is what get’s us, super relatable. This year Zara scored hit after hit, strange enough this is not one of them. Don’t ask us why. If it was up to us this would have been the smash it deserved to be.

7. Little Mix – Touch
RELEASEDATE: December 9, 2016
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #4 (UK Singles Top 75)

The biggest girl group in the world is Little Mix, no doubt about that. With four big hits they dominated the charts. This time they even took it overseas with their remix to CNCO’s “Reggaeton Lento”. However we like to name “Touch” their best one for 2017. This is everything that pop music should be. Super catchy poppy sound, a good video and even better performances to promote it. What a year for Little Mix!

6. Fifth Harmony – He Like That
RELEASEDATE: September 19, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #X (Didn’t chart anywhere)

We are very well aware that “Down” ft. Gucci Mane was Fifth Harmony’s biggest hit this year. We are also very aware that it should’ve been “He Like That”. Let’s be honest, this was such a summer bop. A huge catchy track that should have been in the Top 10 all over the world. It may have been to sexy for most people. Not for Clean though. Three months after it’s release we still can’t get enough of the raunchy video. It makes us want to go to the club and dance up on the wall with some half naked sweaty guys to!

5. Harry Styles – Sign Of The Times
RELEASEDATE: April 7, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #1 (UK Singles Top 75)

One Direction splitting up may have been the best split since Justin Timberlake left *N SYNC. First we got the incredibly hot ZAYN releasing his own material. And this year we had Harry Styles taking the number one spot in the charts. A very well deserved one may we say. The stunning fashion star gave us a huge debut single. It is one of those kinds that your mum, dad and even grand parents will adore as well. A total classic production and amazing vocals. Perfection.

4. PRETTYMUCH – Open Arms
RELEASEDATE: October 27, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #X (Didn’t chart anywhere)

Simon Cowell brought girl- and boybands back to our lives. After speaking about two girlbands already it’s time to dedicate the number 4 in the ‘best of’ list to PRETTYMUCH. Their single “Open Arms” made our teenager heart beat faster and it gave us a sore throat to sing-a-long as loud as possible. We absolutely adore this one.

3. Rita Ora – Your Song
RELEASEDATE: May 26, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #7 (UK Singles Top 75)

2017 is the year that goes in the books as Rita Ora’s comeback. Her last big hit was in 2015 with “Poison”. This year she made a return with three top 10 hits. The lowest charting one out of these three is Clean’s personal favorite. For “Your Song” the singer collaborated with her friend Ed Sheeran. Together they produced and written the smash. “Your Song” is the song that made us the happiest this year. Every time this song plays we get that big smile on our face like it is the very first time we hear it.

2. Dua Lipa – New Rules
RELEASEDATE: July 21, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #1 (UK Singles Top 75 / Dutch Top 40)

Iconic. This song will forever be remembered as a pop music’s highlight. First of all we like to point out how unique it is to score a big fat number one hit with the sixth single off of your debut album. Second of all we want to say this again; iconic! The lyrics of this song are everything. Relatable and catchy as hell. The video is also amazing, it’s one of those videos that has a hundred imitated versions on YouTube. It was not without a reason that Dua Lipa was named one of the new artists to keep an eye on for 2017!

1. Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug – Havana
RELEASEDATE: September 8, 2017
HIGHEST POSITION IN CHARTS: #1 (UK Singles Top 75)

Fifth Harmony may made the news for pushing a fake Camila off of the MTV VMA stage. But it was Camila that made the headlines for scoring a worldwide number one hit song. With “Havana” the singer proved that she is all good by herself. And boy, oh boy do we approve this success. This song was everything that we needed this year. It is such a feel good track and hits all the right boxes for the charts. Love, love, love it!
